You’ve probably noticed a significant decrease in the number of shopping carts being removed from shopping centers over the past few months, but now HB2460 is heading to Governor Hobbs’ desk from the state legislature.
This bill undermines local control and would blow up the progress on rogue and abandoned shopping carts that has been made as a result of the City of Phoenix’s updated Shopping Cart Ordinance.
Unfortunately, retailers with deep pockets have a direct line to state legislators, and they’re pushing for HB2460 in order to kill the city’s ordinance.
We feel retailers have had decades to address the issue of cart theft but instead they made the choice to allow stolen carts to become “someone else’s problem” and simply absorb the cost of purchasing replacements.
Voice your support for common sense local regulation of city issues by asking Governor Hobbs to VETO HB2460 and reject top-down, lobbyist-supported legislative overreach.
