4-way Stop & Enhanced Crosswalks

Larkspur & 21st Ave

The intersection of 21st Avenue and Larkspur Drive previously had stop signs only for the north/south traffic direction, which encouraged higher motor vehicle speeds and unsafe turning on Larkspur Drive. This intersection is located in the heart of our neighborhood, and sees a significant amount of pedestrian traffic including children walking to and from school.

The City of Phoenix Streets Department resisted our request for a 4-way stop, but conducted multiple speed and traffic count studies to help us identify the best configuration for this intersection. Adding stop signs for the east/west directions and improving the crosswalks with high-visibility markings and “stop bars” has significantly improved safety for our community.
