181 new trees planted in Shaw Butte through Community Canopy Tree Grant
In 2025, Shaw Butte Neighborhood Alliance partnered with the City of Phoenix Office of Heat Response & Mitigation to apply for the Community Canopy Tree Grant, which offered up to 200 native or drought-tolerant species trees to neighborhood residents free of charge (up to two trees per property). This grant provided for 15-25 gallon trees (depending on species selection), professional planting by a city-contracted landscaper, and a free “swag bag” for each participating resident which included a hose, hose timer, t-shirt, and information about caring for trees.
